CIVL 220 Statics and Solid Mechanics F | 4 Lecture: 3 Lab: 0.25 Tutorial: 0.75 Review of statics, forces and equilibrium, internal forces in simple structures; axial, torsion, shear and moment diagrams; concepts of stress and strain; mechanical properties of materials; centroids and moments of areas; axial stress; flexural stress; shear stress in shafts and beams; calculation of displacement by integration; introduction to combined loading; introduction to column buckling. This course is designed primarily for mechanical engineering students.
